MY INSIGHTS ON "KITA KITA"
Thursday, August 03, 2017When we love, we subconsciously choose to be blind--eyes closed but the heart sees.
I posted this quote on my Twitter account (http://twitter.com/geechology) after watching 'Kita Kita' starring Alessandra de Rossi (as Lea) and Empoy Marquez (as Tonio) written and directed by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo.
Disclaimer: I will not be a critic today on this movie. Rather, I will just share my personal thoughts after watching it and tell how it moved me.
Just a quick synopsis of the film:
Alessandra De Rossi plays the role of Lea, a tourist guide in Osaka and looking forward to settling down with her Japanese fiancé, Nobu. Unfortunately, Nobu called off the wedding and when Lea discovers the true reason behind her fiancé’s decision, she suffered temporary blindness due to stress. While in this state, a neighbor and fellow Filipino, Tonio, which is played by Empoy Marquez, tries to cheer her up. Later, Tonio asked for Lea's services as a tour guide despite her visual impairment as he tries to win her heart along the way. Lea regains her eyesight which makes her discover the true back story of Tonio (which is the greatest part of movie for me.)
Spoiler Alert:
It is actually told in two parts. First is from Lea’s point of view and then it shifted to Tonio's which revealed so much more than what just seemed to be in the surface initially. Lea and Tonio met when they were both in the recovery of a recent heartbreak from their previous relationships.
And...okay, I will stop it from here now and will leave to you the rest so you better watch the film, like, right now! Haha! Support local, y'all!
It's now time to share my insights:
What brought me into writing this blog is by this heart-stirring line from Tonio when he said,
"Nung nakakakita ka, hindi mo ako nakita. Nung nabulag ka, nakita mo ako."
Dude! I'm telling you! Wonderful insights came rushing into my mind after hearing this line that I even paused the movie and wrote them down immediately (for this blog) and I felt it through all over my system (and later decided to smoke it out because it started to contain me.)
How it moved me? Just like what I've said from my tweet, when we love, we subconsciously choose to be blind--eyes closed but the heart sees. And by saying "blind" and "eyes closed", this figuratively explains how we act on love most of the times. And here are my insights:
1. When we love, we choose to shut our eyes off from all the heartbreaks from our past and take the risk once more just to feel happily inlove again. We try to take off all of our fears and let the butterflies in our stomach shiver in our system all over just to feel inlove again. Likewise to what Lea did after her previous heartbreak where she surrounded herself with walls of distrust and anger so she was trying to push Tonio away. The movie figuratively showed how Lea chose to break down those walls, while her eyes were "closed" despite her anxieties and let her heart see it for herself instead.
2. When we love, we choose to shut our eyes off from the imperfections of our partner and love them completely (or more than that) despite. We always openly accept the person, may they be failing our standards and are not even that drop dead gorgeous or an overly witty one just because they can make us unexplainably happy and inlove. Even when almost everyone around us always say that we deserve more, or we should not settle for less--at the end of the day we will still fall back into their arms and love them despite. The movie figuratively showed how Lea loved Tonio (who is completely different from her ex-fiancé), while her eyes were "closed" amidst all imperfections and let her heart see it, accept it, and love it for herself instead.
And lastly,
3. When we love but end up being broken, we choose to shut our eyes off just so our heart can have its sight. The eyes have seen the truth which brought us horrors of pain so we choose not to look instead. The heart cannot see its way out because nightmares of sorrow are blurring it and so we're trapped. Thus, we cover our eyes from the truth of brokenness just to relive our hearts with the prettiest memories that were being dumped to the dusts of yesterday. We choose to cover our eyes from facing tomorrow where some things are gone and we have to take just another step forward and move on. The movie figuratively showed how Lea chose to shut her eyes off just to let her heart feel her wonderful days with Tonio once more--"eyes closed" just so the heart can see.
This is what we all usually do. We thought we're out of this trap already but only to find out that we're subconsciously ready to be blind again--"eyes closed" as we let the heart feel its way to the day after tomorrow.
To sum it up: we choose to be blind to take risk for love's sake; we choose to be blind to adore the imperfections for love's sake; and we choose to be blind to accept the inevitable good and bad surprises...also for love's sake.
Love will always be bittersweet. Just don't get yourself too soaked up in it. Bounce!
